HOUSTON — This weekend, the Harris County GOP reluctantly came to an agreement with the Harris County Clerk’s office to have a joint election for the upcoming primary.
After reviewing SB 924 and receiving guidance from the Texas Secretary of State Elections Division, all parties agreed that it is required under this new law to hold a joint election. Ultimately, following the law will always be paramount when it comes to decisions on running our elections, whether we like it or not.
Harris County GOP Chairman Cindy Siegel issued the following statement:
“This decision was not made lightly, but given the restrictions of SB 924 and the guidance from the Secretary of State Elections Division, we had no other option. We will work with the clerk’s office to have a successful primary election, and we plan on maintaining as much control over our election as possible through ongoing negotiations with all stakeholders over the next couple of days.”
