Sarah Palin was elected the first female Governor of Alaska in 2006. Prior to being elected Governor, Palin served on the Wasilla, Alaska City Council for two terms and then won election as Mayor of Wasilla in 1996. After her election as Mayor, the fiscally responsible Palin immediately cut her own salary and delivered on her campaign promise to cut property taxes by 60%. As Governor, Palin has achieved ethics reform, cut pork barrel spending and even sold the state’s private jet to make the state more fiscally responsible.

As a stalwart conservative, Palin is strongly pro-life and has five children, the oldest of whom is serving in the U.S. Army Infantry and is awaiting deployment to Iraq in September. Sarah Palin is a strong supporter of lifting the bans on domestic oil drilling and exploration and is also fiercely opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants.

My fellow Harris County Republicans, Sarah Palin is a bold choice for Vice-President and I applaud Senator McCain for his inspired selection of Governor Palin. To quote the many dozens of callers to our headquarters this morning, "Sarah Palin is a home run!"

The excitement from callers over this choice is amazing and should give us all great hope about our chances for success in November.

Now that our ticket is official and our campaign is in full swing, we need the help of every Harris County Republican to ensure that our plan is fully implemented so that we can elect McCain/Palin to the White House and all of our other great Republican candidates down the ballot.
