HOUSTON, TX, August 11, 2008:  Harris County Republican Party Chairman Jared Woodfill today called on local Democrats to denounce and return cash received from the "Hush Money Man," Frederick Baron.  The Texas Democrat Trust, a PAC whose goal is to defeat local Republicans, is funded in large part by former presidential candidate John Edwards’ national finance chairman, Frederick Baron.  The "Hush Money Man" recently confessed to funding John Edwards’ mistress.  According to Woodfill, "It appears that Baron’s cash was used to silence or hush Mr. Edwards' mistress in an effort to deceive the public into believing Edwards was the candidate of working families by concealing an extramarital affair to which Edwards now admits to having."  The purported goal of the Texas Democratic Trust is to establish "trust" in our elected officials.   Woodfill stated, "It appears that the "Hush Money Man" is now attempting to use his millions to deceive Harris County voters.  How can the people of Harris County trust candidates who are funded by an individual whose millions have been used to deceive the public in a failed bid to control the White House?"
