Nearly four months after winning
the Democrat nomination for Harris County Judge, David Mincberg
has yet to take a stand on a single issue among the many facing
Harris County. When visiting his website under the “issues”
section, potential voters are greeted with a message that says,
“Check back in the weeks and months ahead to learn where David
stands on the issues.”
I find it unbelievable that David
Mincberg is seeking to become the County Judge of the largest
county in Texas, but refuses to tell voters a single idea he has
for Harris County if he should get the job. It is obvious that
Mincberg, like most Democrats this year, is relying on the tired
and meaningless mantra of “change” because he has no other ideas
and solutions to offer. Of course, this tactic should come as no
surprise to anyone, since it is the same old tired tactics that
Mincberg learned as Chairman of the Harris County Democrat
Party—a position that he conveniently fails to disclose on his
website.
When comparing Mincberg’s
empty rhetoric to our current County Judge Ed Emmett’s record of
accomplishment and bold vision, the choice for voters in
November is clear. Judge Emmett not only says where he stands on
taxes, he has successfully proven his leadership on the issue by
helping to pass the largest tax rate cut in Harris County
history. Meanwhile, David Mincberg is silent on the issue of
taxes.
On the issue of protecting our senior citizens, Ed Emmett has
been an outspoken champion, having successfully led the effort
to increase the homestead exemption for seniors so that they pay
lower taxes. Meanwhile, David Mincberg sits quiet on the issue
of protecting our Harris County seniors.
As foreign interests sought to gain control of our local toll
roads, Ed Emmett took a stand against them and worked with our
Texas Legislature to ensure that local toll roads remained in
American hands. And where does David Mincberg stand on the issue
of our local toll roads? Well, we will just have to wonder,
because he is silent on that issue as well.
When it came time take a stand on the issue of property tax
relief for the citizens of Harris County, Judge Ed Emmett made
his position known and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Harris
County Tax Assessor Paul Bettencourt when they both testified
before the Texas State Senate. David Mincberg certainly wasn’t
in Austin fighting for us. In fact, he has yet to take a stand
on this issue either.
I
challenge David Mincberg to follow the lead of County Judge Ed
Emmett and let the voters of Harris County know where he stands
on the issues. It is unfortunate that Mincberg currently has no
plan for Harris County, but perhaps he can find one in the
"months ahead" as he promises. The citizens, voters and
taxpayers certainly deserve to know where he stands.
