Jeff Williams
Candidate for Justice of the Peace Pct. 5, Place 2
Jeff Williams is the only legally trained and experienced practicing attorney who is a candidate for Justice of the Peace, precinct 5, place 2. Jeff was born in Florida in 1955, and attained the rank of Life Scout. After graduating from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Jeff moved to Houston 31 years ago in 1979, and has lived here ever since. He attended law school at South Texas College of Law in downtown Houston; the heart of the legal community, and graduated in 1981. Jeff opened his own law office in 1984 and has been self employed to this day.
Jeff met his wife Rita shortly thereafter, and they were married in 1986 and just celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary. They are raising two son’s here on the west side of Houston.
Jeff understands the needs of business owners, having been self employed since 1984. Jeff understands the needs of landlords and tenants, having been a landlord for several years.
Jeff runs a general civil practice. For almost three decades, he has been helping folks solve their everyday legal problems, including many of the same issues that come before JP Court. Jeff believes in amicably reaching an agreement with the parties, but has experience litigating cases when an agreement can’t be had. Jeff continues his legal education with 15 hours of legal seminars and self study annually.
Jeff and Rita's oldest son David is in the high school Marching band and is a life scout, where Jeff serves the troop as an assistant scout master. Their youngest son Justin, is a cub scout where Rita is a den leader and Jeff helps the Pack informally, having been a den leader and committee chair for another pack when David was a cub scout.
Jeff also volunteers for the Texas State Guard, one of the military branches of the state of Texas. Jeff serves as a JAG officer and has volunteered to write wills and powers of attorney for deploying Texas Army National Guard troops. He has volunteered to serve at the Wings over Houston aviation event, Dickens on the Strand and the Fort Bend County Fair. He earned a Military Emergency Management Skill badge and attended a course entitled "Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings" for a week at New Mexico Tech sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
Jeff has also served as the Chairman and Election Judge for voter precinct 625 for the last 4 years. He has worked to help elect several conservative candidates.
Rita was born and raised in Guatemala speaking both Spanish and English fluently. She is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College located in Indiana. Jeff is approximately 80% fluent in Spanish.
Jeff recently rode in the 2009 BP MS 150 bicycle race, an annual charity bike ride from Houston to Austin. The event is to raise funds to help patients suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.
